Harris County, TX September 29, 2025 – Harris County Universal Services (HCUS), welcomed a new cohort of five NPower interns during Workforce Development Month, reinforcing its commitment to building skills, creating opportunity, and strengthening the County’s technology workforce.
Workforce Development Month, observed nationally each September, recognizes programs that create pathways for job seekers to learn, train, and advance their careers. For HCUS, welcoming NPower interns is about providing real-world, on-the-job training while supporting the next generation of IT professionals who will help serve Harris County.
The internships will last 6 months and provide aspiring IT professionals with county government experience in areas such as cybersecurity, help desk, desktop support, and web design.
This effort is part of the Apprenticeship Advantage Program, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and overseen locally by Harris County Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity (DEEO).
“Workforce Development Month is about action, not just awareness,” said Sindhu Menon, Chief information Officer and Executive Director of Harris County Universal Services. “At Universal Services, we welcome NPower interns to the department, give them hands-on experience in the 3rd largest county in the nation and show them how technology can directly impacts and improves people’s lives. This partnership between NPower, Harris County and Universal Services not only prepares the next generation of IT professionals but also ensures Harris County has the talent needed to keep critical services running well into the future.”
HCUS will host a total of three rounds over the next 18 months. The second round is scheduled to begin in February 2026.
