Parts, Maintenance, and Dispatch Q&A

Parts, Maintenance, and Dispatch Q&A

Q: What is a Safety Inspection?
A: Maintenance should be scheduled every 6,000 miles, 2-4 weeks in advance of the due date.  You may call one of our locations to schedule an appointment or email us at itcfleetdispatch@hctx.net.  Please include the shop location, equipment number, and request type (e.g., routine maintenance or other services) in your email.

Q: How do I schedule a Safety Inspection?
A: Based on the area of the county you work in, your vehicle will be serviced by the Fleet Services Maintenance Facility nearest to you. See the listing of maintenance locations to find the facility nearest to you.  Call the dispatcher of that facility and make an appointment to bring your vehicle in for a safety inspection.  Fleet Services will adhere a reminder tag to the upper left corner of the windshield in plain sight of the driver. Refer to the reminder tag when scheduling the next safety inspection 2-4 weeks in advance.

Q: What should I do if the vehicle breaks down and needs towing?
A: Towing services are managed by location.

If you are:
•North of I-10 and west of I-45, call Milstead Towing at 281-367-3535
•North of I-10 and east of I-45, call Humble Towing at 281-540-1212
•South of I-10, call Apple Towing at 713-383-6200

The upper left side of the vehicle's windshield contains a listing of county vehicle maintenance locations.  Be prepared to inform the wrecker driver of the towing destination.  Drivers are  permitted to change a flat tire instead of being towed to the nearest shop location.

Q: What should I do if the vehicle is involved in an accident and needs to be towed?
A: If your County unit has been involved in an accident and needs to be towed, it should be taken to our Tomball Fleet Services facility located at 23828 Tomball Parkway, Tomball, TX 77375. In case of emergency, any wrecker company can be used if the assigned company is not available.

Q: What should I do if the vehicle has a Flat Tire?
A: County vehicles are equipped with jacks and full-sized spares.  If it is unsafe for the driver to change the flat tire, the driver may call the county towing company:
•North of I-10 and west of I-45, call Milstead Towing at 281-367-3535
•North of I-10 and east of I-45, call Humble Towing at 281-540-1212
•South of I-10, call Apple Towing at 713-383-6200

The tow truck driver is not obligated to change the tire but will tow the vehicle to a Fleet Services maintenance location for repair or replacement.  If the driver changes the flat tire himself, s/he must bring the car into Fleet Services as soon as possible for a safety check.
